- Note: Bio:
John Patrick Prendergast was a barrister and historian, residing Dublin, Ireland. He came from an old Irish family that is definitely traced back to the 1169 conquest of Ireland.
At age 11, with brother Francis, he attended the school of Dr. Valpy, Greek scholar, at Reading, England. He then trained for the law 1825 - 1828 at Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland. After a year of residency in the (Middle) Temple, he began practice as Barrister-at-Law. In 1834 he joined Leinster Bar, and served on a circuit court that included Kilkenny. In 1836 he succeeded his father and grandfather in the agency of Lord Clifden's estates, administering for many years.
Starting in 1848 he began studying records of the Cromwellian Settlement in the latter 1600's and gained access to important record collections. His book "The Cromwellian Settlement of Ireland" published in 1865 indicted the English treatment of the Irish with a large body of facts largely ignored by unsympathetic English historians.1,3 - Note: Parents:
John Patrick Prendergast was the second son of Francis Prendergast (1757-1846), and the first son of Francis' second wife Ester Patrick (-1846).
Half-brother:
Jeffry Francis Prendergast (1799-1879) was the first son of Francis Prendergast (1757-1846) and Francis' first wife Maria Reynolds (-1807). Jeffry Francis Prendergast married Margaretta Sophia Wehrtmann, daughter of Johann Friedrich Wehrtmann. They resided in Dresden where he was employed in his father-in-law’s banking business. They were childless. Furniture inherited from this uncle came down to the heirs of Francis Ensor Prendergast.

"She [Caroline] bore 3 girls and two boys, but only the second child, Francis Ensor, long survived the perils of birth."7 - Note: Writings - books authored:
