This page lists all of the ancestors of Mary Abbie Childs who could not be traced back to immigrants. With a few noted exceptions, they all married in New England. So they were themselves immigrants or descendants of immigrants.

The Immigrant Ancestors page lists about fourteen immigrant women whose surnames are unknown, and three are identified only as 'wife'. They are not relisted on this page.

This compiler has hopes to learn more about the first group below; the remainder, not so much.

Brick walls and research required

  • Joseph Godfrey (- 1780-82)
    • Origins and parents are unknown.
    • He was of South Hampton in a 1746 deed, and in 1747/8 when he married Susanna Morrill.
    • They resided in Brentwood, Rockingham Co., N.H., later called Poplin (now Fremont).
    • He was of some wealth, purchasing property, and having one of the best houses in Poplin.
    • He owned property in Gilmantown, Strafford Co., N.H., but did not reside there.

  • Hannah Underwood, wife of William Shattuck
    • Origins unknown.
    • "William Shattuck Jun. of Groton and Hannah Underwood of Watertowne were joyned in marriage ... March 19th 1687/8"
    • The genealogy of Watertown Underwoods is not straightforward.

    • McArthur identifies Thomas Chandler's wife as Hannah [Brewer?], and cites these sources.
    • Anderson notes that the proposal that Daniel and Joanna Brewer had a daughter Hannah is without proof.
