Richard Cook, Prominent Grower, Dies
Succumbs After Long Illness
Funeral Services From Family Residence Saturday Afternoon
Richard B. Cook, aged 56, of 704 West Highland avenue, widely known orange grower, died this morning at Redlands Community hospital. He had been in poor health for years and had been critically ill since Saturday.
Since coming to Redlands in 1919 he had operated the 60-acre Cook Estate orange grove on Pioneer avenue at the north end of Texas street. During the fall of 1923 and the spring of 1924 he was the field representative of the Redlands-Highlands Fruit Exchange. In recent years he has been a director of the Orangedale packing association.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Kathleen S. Cook, and two children, Mrs. Chester Bidwell of Nashville, Tenn., and Richard B. Cook, Jr., of Belmont Shores, Calif.
A native of Pottstown, Pa., he was educated at the Hill school and Princton University (class of '07). After college and before coming to Redlands he was employed by the General Crushed Stone company of Easton, Pa. He and Mrs. Cook made their home in Easton.
Funeral services will be held at 704 Wes Highland avenue Saturday afternoon 2:30 o'clock, Rev. Herbert C. ide officiating. E. E. Dow Memorial chapel is in charge of arrangements. Interment will be at Hillside cemetery.3 - Note: Mr. and Mrs. Charles G. Stone, 172 Beacon street, Hartford Conn., announce the engagement of their daughter, Miss. Kathleen Rathburn Stone, to Richard Bailey Cook, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar S. Cook of Pottstown, Pa. Mr. Cook is a graduate of the Hill school and Princton University. The date of the wedding has not been set.5
