"On Sunday evening, 12th inst., Thomas Lancaster, in the 88th year of his age...funeral from the residence of his son, Jacob B. Lancaster, No. 1425 Arch street...The Carpenters Company are particularly invited to attend the funeral."
"Death of a Merchant - Mr. Thomas Lancaster, grain merchant, died on Sunday evening at his residence, in Lombard street, in the 88th year of his age. Mr. L. was engaged in the grain trade at Spruce street wharf for a very long period."9 - Note: Will of Thomas Lancaster of the city of Philadelphia, merchant. Will written 17 April 1847, codicil written 26 January 1850, proven 13 Oct 1858.
Will: Names son Jacob B. Lancaster, and grandson Thomas J. Dunot, son of deceased daughter Sidney P. Dunot, and granddaughter Sidney S. Dumot.
House and lot at No. 114 Lombard Street, running through to Gaskill Street are bequeathed to son Jacob. His half share of house and lot to the east of No. 112 Lombard, bought recently by Jacob and him from the Universalist Church, is bequeathed to Jacob. Three story brick house at No. 112 Lombard Street is bequeathed to grandson Thomas J. Dunot. His half share of three houses and lots on the west side of Delaware Street between Lombard Alley or Court and Lombard Street, then owned by Jacob and him, to be held in trust for benefit of granddaughter Sidney S. Dumot for her lifetime, and then to her children.
Codicil: Additionally names wife Ann Lancaster. Household and kitchen items bequeathed to her. She is also granted right to occupy house where he then dwells for five? years after his decease or to have rents. And she is granted a lifetime annuity of $200 per year unless she remarries.
The codicil also states that he has since given the house and lot at No. 114 to Jacob. The codicil also cancels a $600 promissory note debit to his son Jacob, noting that Jacob paid off a $1200 mortgage for the Fourth Street property held by them equally.
