• Note*: Sidney Taylor's birth date is unknown. The 1850 Census states she was then 30 years of age. (Census data is well known to be unreliable.) If that were correct then she was married at about age 16 or 17.³
• Note: The Jefferson County marriage record consists of two documents, both dated 17 November 1836. The first document is the marriage bond which states: "George H. Berghaus and Sidney Taylor daughter of Maj. Edmund H. Taylor who Consents hereto". The second document is the marriage license, signed by James B. Britton "a Minister of the Gospel, of the Prvt. Episcopal Church".¹

  George H. Berghaus and his wife Sidney E. of Mobile, Alabama, on 12 November 1845 granted to Philip D. Barbour of Jefferson County, Kentucky, in consideration of $2200, an undivided eighth part of the Seminary tract in Jefferson County which descended to said Sidney from her father Edmund H. Taylor deceased, and also all interest in the adjoining lands which her father purchased in conjunction with Col. Zachery Taylor and Wm. Taylor, and also any back rents due. They also confirmed all of Barbour's purchases of said land at sheriff's sale.
