- Note*: "Captain Samuel became a grantee of land [at Newtown] as early as 1662. Later he purchased an adjacent tract which had belonged to his father. [Passed through Benjamin, John & Daniel.] Part of the present house was probably built shortly after 1662. The 'new house' was built in 1776...During the Revolution, General Howe had his headquarters here...The Newtown 'pippin', a noted apple, was first grown on this property."1
