Joh Walborn4 - Note: The following six of notes support the assertion that there was a John Walborn, of about the right age, who lived in Lower Paxton Township and then Middletown, had wife Margaret, and daughters as listed in the census. It is likely that he was Christian and Elisabeth's son.
- Note: Tax lists, Lower Paxton Township, Dauphin County:
John Walborn appears as a tenant in 1815 & 1825; then as a freeholder in 1834-1835, with 17 acres, a Preacher and a Justice of Peace; then as a tenant as 'Esquire' for 1828-1833, Justice of Peace in 1828 and 1831.5 - Note: In a newspaper section 'Notes and Querys Relating to the History of Dauphin County', with a piece on 'The Taverns of Paxtang Valley':
"Jacob Shultz the younger...opened the first public house in the valley...the mansion house...three miles east of Harrisburg..sold...1791 to Jacob Shultz...Mr. Shultz became the owner of the property, and about 1808 or 1810 erected buildings on the eastern part of the farm, to which he retired from all business same that of farming, and leased his tavern property to Henry Grove, who conducted the inn for a few years, when he was succeeded by John Walborn, father of Cornelius Walborn, late postmaster of Philadelphia. Mr. Walborn was an active man and a genial landlord. During his occupancy, in 1819, the turnpike road was built, which added considerably to the business of the house. Mr. Shultz died in 1819, and in the spring of 1820...the tavern house...were sold."6 - Note: Harrisburg Zion Lutheran, April 1822:
List of communicants:

On 6 Nov 1838 Perry H. Walborn and William Gaugler/Gauchler, guardian of William Walburn, a minor, (appointed by the Orphans Court of Union Co.), both of Pennstownship, Union Co. Penn., granted to John App, in consideration of $250, lot number fourteen in the town of Selinsgrove, Pennstownship, Penn., on the west side of Water St., fifty feet by one hundred sixty feet. The lot had last been sold 2 Jan 1812 by Peter Beistle and his wife Mary, daughter and one of the heirs of Nicholaus Gougler, to John Walborn who died intestate "leaving three children to wit. Perry H. Walborn, William Walborn, and Mary Ann Walborn (the wife of the said deceased also died since)". Mary Ann and her husband Henry Hoch, by Deed of Release 17 Aug 1838, quit claimed all their rights to this lot and to the rest of the estate of John Walborn and Elisabeth his wife.
Abstracted by Jeff Moore.11 - Note: The John Walborn(s) described above are not to be confused with the following Johannes Walborn, whose died 1856:
Burial register of Zion Lutheran Church, Jonestown, Lebanon Co., Pennsylvania:
"Johannes Walborn, died 9 June 1856, age 67 years 12 days, born 27 June 1788, buried Stumpstown [Fredericksburg, Lebanon Co.]"
He appears to have been a long time member of that congregation.12 - Note: It is asserted in Henry W. Walborn's book that Johannes Walborn son of Christian Walborn and his wife Elisabeth Lescher was born 6/27/1788 and died 6/9/1856, was buried at Fredericksburg or Shoop's or Middletown, and (written in) married Anna Kleinfetter who died 10/8/1856 age 55 years, and that he had three children: Perry Harrison Walborn born 1815, Cornelius Augustus Walborn born 1816, and John Joseph Walborn born 6/18/1818.
That John Walborn of the book appears to be an amalgamation of disparate facts, some listed above. This compiler has found no evidence connecting the said sons.13 - Note: Also a John Joseph Walborn was found, resident of Middletown, Dauphin county, Justice of the Peace, died 9 Apr 1874, wife Susan. But no evidence was found linking him as a son of Johannes, or as a brother of Perry or of Cornelius. (Middletown records have not been studied by this compiler.)14,15,16,17,18
- Note: This Johannes Walborn is numbered (1-5-4-1-1) in the Herman Walborn book.19
