  • Note: William Lukens' wives, Martha Pennington and Elizabeth Pennington, were first cousins, their fathers being brothers. For this he and Elizabeth were disowned; later they were reinstated:
    Abington MM Minutes 25th 5th mo 1752: "William Lucken having Married his former wifes first Cousin...Stands disown'd"
    Abington MM Minutes 31st 10th mo 1757: "Willm Lukens...Produced a written acknowledgement and Condemnation of his marrying his former wife's first Cosen...was also Recd"6
  • Note: Deed Abstract: By Philadelphia county deed (Book H, Number 20, pg 503) dated 7 November 1763 William Luckens senior, yeoman, and his wife Elizabeth conveyed a tract of 100 acres in Horsham township including a grist mill to their eldest son William Lukens junior, miller, in consideration of natural affection and £320. The 100 acre tract had been bequeathed to William Lukens senior in the 15 June 1739 will of his own father William Lukens, who had purchased it 30 May 1734 from Joseph Hall and his wife Mary nee Fisher. Recorded 15 Apr 1765. (Abstracted by compiler. FHL microfilm # 21,898).7
  • Note: Clarence V. Roberts' abstract of William Lukens' will:
    "Will of William Lukens, Horsham township, Montgomery county, yeoman.
    To my wife Elizabeth Lukens, in lieu of dower, her choice of a room in my dwelling, etc., and £250 in specie, so long as she remain a widow; use of a horse and chair; etc.
    My son Jacob is be under special care of his mother and brother Jonathan, he paying whichever of them shall keep him £25 per year out of my estate.
    To my three daus. Sarah, Martha and Rachel, £30 each, in addition to what they have already had; and to my daughter Mary £120 per annum, while unmarried.
    I have already given my children William, Elizabeth, Jonathan, David, Thomas, and Daniel, their portions.
    To my younger sons, Benjamin and Joseph, all residue of my estate, equally.
    Execr.: my wife Elizabeth and my sons Jonathan and David Lukens.
    Dated 9-5-1798; pr. 28 April 1803.
