Notes

  • Note*: "1741, 5th day, 8th mo. (Oct.). Sharp, Hugh, Esq., of Wellingborrow, Burlington Co.,; will of. Wife, Rachel...Daughter-in-law, Rachel, wife of John Mickle. ... Executors - sons-in-law, William Coate and John Brientnalle. ...Proved Jan. 13, 1742."2
  • Note: In his will Hugh Sharp names daughter-in-law Rachel, wife of John Mickle. In 17th century usage 'daughter-in-law" was used to mean step-daughter. Hugh's will was written about a month before John Mickle and Hannah Cooper (Hugh's step-daughter) were married, but presumably after they had declared their intentions. Did Hugh make a mistake in his will regarding Hannah's name, or is there a misunderstanding about the relationships?
